The New York City and State Language Arts
Learning Standards, and the Learning Standards For The Arts
focus on what students should know in specific subject
areas, and how they should apply and demonstrate that
acquired knowledge.
Student work may be created and evalutated according to the
Standards in various forms. Expected outcomes in Language
Arts include reading literature and functional documents,
and writing responses to literature, essays, letters,
reports, and poetry.
In the Visual and Performing Arts, students are emersed in
the arts and their accomplishments evaluated through
resulting dramatic plays, song, dance, improvisation, role
play, computer generated art, desktop publishing, murals,
musical compositions, paintings, drawings, video, film, and
scripts.
