Aim: To demonstrate
the concept of "value" in relation to lights and darks,
and to develop competence in shading value with
pencil.
Materials:
black and white
magazine photographs; pencil; white drawing
paper
Motivation:
- Students view examples of
completed Photo-pencil projects.
- Students analyze projects
to identify the "penciled-in" areas, as opposed to the
original photograph areas.
- Teacher demonstrates how
to create light, medium and dark values that match the
values of the original photograph.
Objectives:
- To demonstrate the
concept of "value" in relation to lights and
darks.
- To reflect on the
effectiveness of selected mediums or techniques to
convey intended meanings.
- To develop confidence in
shading values with pencil.
Plan:
- Cut a black and white magazine photograph in
half. Paste half of the photograph onto a white
drawing paper.
- Using pencil, complete the other half of the
photograph using light, medium and dark values to give
the illusion that the photo half and drawing are
one.
